What is the First thing that comes to your mind when you read the words OPPORTUNITY & PERCEPTION. If i understand human psychology a little bit , i think the first word gives a positive feeling and the second word gives a negative sense.

Don’t worry if you had other thoughts , you can still read below if you think the topic interests you 😇✌

These two words have such relevance in our existence that we could relate to these in every aspect of our life. I am sharing my bit on them from a Product Manager’s perspective . These are from my experiences & observations of working in the Industry for a better part of time.

The work culture has become so competitive that sometimes it takes years to change perceptions(Take Microsoft as an example , the company had the chance to make the best Web Browser possible but they were so rigid that Internet Explorer would work due to their perceptions & today they are far behind Chrome).

People also do not get much opportunities to change perception , you might recall many of your colleagues leaving for pastures new as they don’t get the opportunity either to grow, test themselves against the best OR change things due to prevailing perceptions that exist in their workplaces.

As a PM , you get the first bite to seize the opportunity to change perception .

Take the likes of early PMs of companies in businesses of Online Grocery Shopping,UPI,Digital Wallets,Online Learning,Video Platforms,FinTech,EdTech & many many more that have changed perceptions & have provided great experience to their users & hugely successful too.

Industries have realized the importance of Product Innovation . Similar to our personal well being ,it is not the youngest & the oldest who would survive, it will be the fittest ones. PMs are going to have a big say in these innovations that would shape the future.

This is where i would dare say that this is the Best Time to be a Product Manager & there can’t be a more favorable time to make your mark.

You just have to START & don’t fall into the trap of perceptions . One has not only an ability to perceive the world but an ability to alter one’s perception of it. An hour of doing something is much more than 10 hours of thinking.

Just like the past decade has been defined by the Startups that have been disruptors in their fields (Refer:Startups from India). The coming decade would belong to more & more of them.

And what better to get kick start your journey(if you have just been thinking about it) than the 1st ever “The Product Summit by Inc42 & The Product Folks” in India on October 10th.

We would see you at the Event..
